Connect with a professional learning community of educators in this four-part professional development series – Transforming with Virtual Instruction. The Transforming with Virtual Instruction series explores virtual instruction through the thematic progression of: planning & preparation, instruction, classroom environment and social-emotional learning.
Through the progression of workshop sessions, participants draw upon their current knowledge and skills of integrating technology in the classroom in order to critically reflect on how they can transform their practice – and in-turn create transformational learning experiences for students. Participants practice creating and refining instructional strategies and resources to implement immediately with their students.
This series focuses on an advanced understanding of remote learning. For a more foundational course, or for a focus on Early Ed, please view Foundations of Virtual Instruction or Virtually Instructing Early Learners.
Discuss best practices for transforming virtual instruction.
Plan possible strategies to address barriers or deepen learning through virtual instruction.

|Session Title||Date||Description||Learning Outcomes|
|Transform Virtual Learning with the SAMR Framework||Jan. 13 at 6pm ET||With increased use of technology in the classroom, we first look for digital tools that allow us to have continuity in instruction to adapt to a variety of learning environments, such as hybrid or remote. In this session, transform how students utilize and interact with technology by learning about the SAMR Framework. Participants will analyze the framework, explore examples of transformational virtual practices and plan their own uses of SAMR.||- Analyze the SAMR Framework.
- Identify how examples connect to the SAMR Framework.
- Apply SAMR to a lesson plan or unit.
|Implementing Hybrid Project Based-Learning||Jan. 20 at 6pm ET||Project-based assessments can often provide an engaging and meaningful learning experience for students, while also being a more reliable form of assessment, as students demonstrate an authentic work product. Additionally, projects are naturally suited for a hybrid learning environment as tasks can be completed together, independently and over time. In this session, we will analyze strategies for facilitating a successful project in a hybrid learning environment. Participants will utilize workshop time to create or refine a project-based assessment for hybrid instruction.||- Identify project-based assessment features.
- Analyze strategies needed to support project-based assessment in a hybrid learning environment.
- Create or revise a project to implement in the hybrid classroom.
|Leading Students to Independence with Virtual Instruction||Jan. 27 at 6pm ET||Student agency has always been a goal of education, however, with a changing learning environment teachers may not always be physically present with students each day to guide their learning. With a new learning environment, we need to re-strategize how we support students in their asynchronous or independent learning. In this session, we will define executive functioning and identify types of executive functioning skills, as well as discuss strategies to support executive functioning skills and how the strategies can be applied in virtual instruction.||- Define executive functioning skills.
- Identify types of executive functioning skills.
- Analyze how hybrid learning strategies to support the development of students’ executive functioning skills.
|Applying SEL Strategies to Support Virtual Learning||Feb. 3 at 6pm ET||As teachers, we work to build intentional opportunities into our learning experiences to address social-emotional wellbeing and support our students in developing their SEL skills. We might recognize areas of growth in SEL when we think through our roster but HOW do we address individual learning needs and SEL skills all in a short lesson? Join this session to review SEL core competencies according to CASEL as well as identify concrete strategies you can use in your classroom to intentionally address specific SEL skills and learner needs. Build a collective resource to bring back to your classroom and reference throughout the school year when planning to support SEL.||- Identify SEL Core Competencies according to CASEL.
- Recognize SEL learning needs in example scenarios.
- Identify strategies to explicitly address SEL skills in a lesson.
